Who Goes to St. Anne's?

We Are All Kinds

The beauty of the Episcopal Church in general--and St. Anne's in particular--is that many different kinds of people find a spiritual home here. Our congregation is composed of people who are rich and poor, young and old, black and white, liberal and conservative. When you visit St. Anne's, you will meet doctors, mechanics, stay-at-home moms, artists, delivery men, judges, saleswomen, ABAC professors, and everything else in between. Most of us did not grow up Episcopalian, so you'll also find a diversity of religious backgrounds, including Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholic, and Pentecostal to name a few. We are not all of the same political persuasion, nor do we all necessarily agree on every detail of Christian doctrine. There simply is no such thing as the "typical" St. Anne's member.

Though Many, We Are One

Coming from such different backgrounds, what, then, holds us together? The answer is simple. We at St. Anne's are held together by our love of God, our love for one another, and our desire to live in the humble pattern of Jesus. All of us are on a quest to know and to follow God, and though many of us are at different places in the journey and have different ways of going about it, our common destination and desire make us one family.

We are also held together by our worship, which is steeped in a rich heritage of Christian traditions, some of which date back to the earliest days of the Church. Because our worship is rooted in practices that Christians have used for centuries (Communion, corporate prayer, in-depth reading of Scripture, and more), it equips us for the here-and-now with connections and insights that we know to be tried and true. This is what we and others before us have come to call "ancient-future worship."

Lastly, let us not understate the importance of food, fellowship, and fun! Whenever you're around a group of St. Anne's members, chances are that there's a potluck, a cookout, or a dinner party nearby. More than just an excuse for eating good food, this is our way of staying connected and sharing our lives with one another. Sitting at table and eating with friends and strangers was a critical aspect of Jesus' ministry; who are we to change a good thing?

Come and See

We hope you will join us for worship, a Sunday lunch, youth group, or some other activity soon. No matter who you are, we believe that you have a place at our table--and at God's table--and we welcome you to experience the hospitality and love of God in a whole new way at St. Anne's Episcopal Church.
